The recent turmoil in Britain and the subsequent intervention by the police and the military are a complex and culture specific phenomenon. China’s President, Hu Jintao, could have given the British Prime Minister David Cameron a call and expressed the Chinese Government’s concern with the human rights situation in his country and urged the British government to deal with the matter democratically. Then it would dawn upon the Western leader what it means to interfere with other countries’ internal affairs.

The founder of Wikileaks, Assange, was born in the wrong country and speaks against the wrong State. Otherwise he’d have picked up this year’s Nobel peace prize rather than the Chinese and instead of facing imprisonment and death threats, since his freedom of speech can be interpreted as truly elevating intercultural understanding and ultimately world peace. But very unfortunately for Assange, for Nobel himself, and for the world at large, the Nobel Peace Prize Committee has had to change the criterion from world peace to endangerment to a non-Western state, or (possible) consolidation of the Western Power, as has been seen time and again in recent years. Hasn’t the Peace Prize Committee become a paradox for world peace itself?
